The Freedom Academy, a joint initiative of DemoLab and The Reynolds Foundation (TRF), has recorded a special episode as part of the module Voluntary Associations & The History of Colombia.

The conversation brought together Carlos Vives, 2024 Latin Grammy-winning Colombian artist and co-founder of Fundación Tras La Perla; Claudia Elena Vásquez, co-founder of Fundación Tras La Perla; and Dr. Álvaro A. Salas-Castro, CEO of The Reynolds Foundation and Founder and Chairman of Demo Lab Foundation (Demo Lab).

This episode highlights how freedom of association is not only a constitutional right but also a living practice that drives democracy, strengthens communities, and creates lasting change. Through the inspiring work of Fundación Tras La Perla, the discussion explores how voluntary commitment among citizens, local leaders, businesses, academia, and institutions can transform realities, from the revitalization of culture in Pescaíto, to the protection of the Ciénaga Grande, and the creation of safe spaces for children and women.

The dialogue also addressed the role of art and culture as forces for freedom and democracy, emphasizing how storytelling and civic creativity help sustain open societies even in the face of authoritarian threats.

The Reynolds Foundation is proud to support the Freedom Academy as a platform where ideas, experiences, and leadership converge to strengthen democratic resilience globally.
